Deep in the heart of the San Juan Mountains of Colorado is an aspen grove with a set of trees that has grown with the curvature akin to that of scoliosis of the spine. Many years ago snow drifted down the mountain side and caused young aspen trees to be laid over. As time went on these trees began to grow vertical again with curves near their base. This image captures three of those trees as the sun began to rise and shine through the fall colored leaves behind them. The use of a very narrow aperture and partial obscuring the sun caused the sunburst seen in the image.

Artist Info
My passion is to travel and take photos and videos that document my journeys. I first picked up a camera during a photography class in high school and have been an avid photographer since that moment. I used photography as a way of sharing my travels and duty assignments with my family and friends during my 20-year career in the United States Air Force.
I am currently based in Commerce City, Colorado and enjoy taking photos in Colorful Colorado and beyond. Commerce City is home to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge and is a phenomenal site to see bison, bald eagles, ferrets, deer, coyotes, and more, all in the backdrop of the Mile High City. In addition to photographing the majestic Rocky Mountains, I make frequent trips to Jackson, Wyoming to photograph Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park. I have had the pleasure of visiting half of our National Parks, as well as some in Canada and look forward to continuing my bucket list goal of seeing them all.
