Brackendale, BC is home to the largest concentration of wintering bald eagles in North America; arriving in November as the last of the spawning salmon make their way up the sound and into the Squamish River. Despite the quantity of food available, it is not uncommon to see the eagles fight over the salmon and try to steal from one another. On this cold December morning, I was sitting along the river’s edge as this eagle came in on the offensive and was able to catch the look of the eagle facing me, summing up how anyone might feel with such a large bird of prey coming at you with talons out and beak open.

Artist Info
Jill Elizabeth “JBeth” has spent over 30 years watching transient moments with her mind’s eye and capturing each with her camera. Having lived in the Pacific Northwest most of her life, Jill is naturally drawn to wildlife, nature, and indigenous culture. Her desire for a strong ecosystem and biodiversity to thrive for future generations motivates her to capture and share her experiences from highly remote areas, oftentimes accessible only by boat and guide. From water to sky, sunrise to well past sunset, Jill’s skill at capturing the fleeting moment is so dramatic that one often feels as if they have been transported to the moment alongside her.
