As the snow melts and the weather turns warmer, the Grizzly and Black Bears of British Columbia make their way to the inlets and estuaries in search of food, easily turning rocks over in search of mussels and crabs and feasting on the sedge grass that is high in fat content. The ravens and crows follow the bears looking for any small scraps or morsels left behind.
Knight Inlet, the largest on the Central Coast of British Columbia, is in the ancestral land of the Kwakwaka’wakw First Nation and can only be accessed by boat. Leaving Port McNeill on North Vancouver Island, it takes approximately 2.5 hours to reach Glendale Cove and the estuary, where grizzlies, black bears, eagles, and the beauty of British Columbia can be viewed from a specialized skiff boat.
