About This Artwork

Abraham Lake is a special place that needs to be experienced first hand. Each winter as the lake begins to freeze, bubbles rise to the surface from the plant life on the bottom of the lake and are frozen in the ice. As the ice thickens, bubbles are frozen at various levels of the ice. This is not the only lake that this phenomenon occurs, but what makes Abraham Lake special is the weather conditions that frequent the lake. High winds clear the frozen surface of snow and allow you to see the ice and bubbles below. The snow being blown along the surface of the ice also polishes the surface of the ice to all a clear view of these bubbles.

This photo was captured on an extended photography road trip from Colorado to Alberta, Canada. The image is a stack of 9 different photos that were all focused at different points in the scene. The first image was focused as close to the camera as possible and each subsequent image was focused deeper in the scene until infinity was reached. This process ensured a tack sharp image from the bubbles in the foreground to Elliot Peak and Sentinel Mountain in the background.

My passion is to travel and take photos and videos that document my journeys. I first picked up a camera during a photography class in high school and have been an avid photographer since that moment. I used photography as a way of sharing my travels and duty assignments with my family and friends during my 20-year career in the United States Air Force.

I am currently based in Commerce City, Colorado and enjoy taking photos in Colorful Colorado and beyond. Commerce City is home to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge and is a phenomenal site to see bison, bald eagles, ferrets, deer, coyotes, and more, all in the backdrop of the Mile High City. In addition to photographing the majestic Rocky Mountains, I make frequent trips to Jackson, Wyoming to photograph Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park. I have had the pleasure of visiting half of our National Parks, as well as some in Canada and look forward to continuing my bucket list goal of seeing them all.
