It was a calm morning on the shore of Peanut Lake in Crested Butte, Colorado. The air was still as life began to stir in this quaint mountain town. The sun began to turn the sky in to soft hues of purple, pink, and orange. The fog began to light up and the glass-like water of the lake reflected the scene to perfection. It was a morning worth remembering with these limited edition prints.
This was one of the last photos I captured on a trip to Telluride to scout out photo locations for the upcoming fall colors season. On the way back to Commerce City, I stopped in Crested Butte for the evening and woke to a beautiful sunrise at Peanut Lake. The still air made for ideal conditions for this sunrise. As the color of the sky began to turn from dark blue and purple to a lighter purple, pink and orange, I was firing the shutter as quickly as the camera would allow. The soft morning light combined with a low ISO had the shutter speed at 20 seconds. Despite the long shutter speed, the reflection in the water was crisp, a testament to how tranquil the morning was. The distinctive peak of Gothic Mountain is prominent in the image, in both the sky and reflection. This is a photo that Jenn loves, and I know that it will look as good on your home or office walls, especially as a limited edition print, as it does on hers.
